Self confidence and a strong presence just exude a "You will respect me for who I am" attitude.
    Carapace
The elytra of a Buprestidae beetle. From a distance it appears as a rainbow-like wash of color, but closer inspection reveals intricate detail. At an even closer scale, the color itself is revealed to come from countless microscopic scales on the surface.
    Ancient Dragon
This image of the back of a dragonfly still shakes me. It is intense and confusing at first. Once you realize what it is, curiosity and wonder takes over. How does it work? Where are the muscles? Why do such small details have color patterns.
    Curculio
The colored scales that make up one spot on a weevil.
    Curculio II
Super close up of the colored scales of a spot on a weevil.
    Waiting for Night
    Morpho
The scales of a Blue Morpho butterfly. There are actually two sets of scales, one overlaying the other.
